Replies to unanswered questions from the Sept 28 Tech Session.
Question: Why should you not change the fluid in the automatic
transmission? What do you mean by "lifetime lubricant?" Vehicle in
question is a W210 E-class, 5-speed electronic transmission.
Answer: According to MB Service
Manager, Dan Kolanski, the fluid in the W210 does not need to
be changed, ever. The fluid lasts the life of the vehicle, as
long as there is not a leak?
Question: On my 1988, should the car alarm
sound the horn? Why?
Answer: The horn is part of the alarm system
and should sound when the alarm goes off.
Question: When
will you recall the 2001-2002 C-Class for replacement of those
noisy torsion bars? Squeak on rubber cushions? Why not put 04/05
improvements on 2001-2002 vehicle?
Answer: The replacement parts
for cushions on the torsion bars have been improved. When
we replace them on 2001 & 2002 C Class models,
the new and improved parts are always installed. Mercedes-Benz
has not done a recall on this issue.
Question: I have a 1999 E320 with an analog cell phone, which cell companies don't
want to deal with. How can I, or isn't it possible, to change
to digital in my vehicle?
Answer: As explained at the meeting,
cell phone technology changes so quickly, that the integrated
phones don't generally
update to the newer technology. It is not possible to update
an integrated phone from analog to digital technology.
Question: Why
are plastic engine covers used so much?
Answer: Plastic is used
because it is very durable, doesen't
rust, and provides a very long life.
Question: What engine will the
Jeep Liberty Diesel have?
Answer: The Jeep Liberty website says
it will be fitted with a Daimler-Chrysler diesel.
